It is with a sad heart that the school farewells Mr. O'Brien at the end of Term 2. Mr. O'Brien was the first principal of the newly formed Cullinane College back in 2003 and has had a huge impact on the direction the College has taken over the last eight years. In 2002, it was decided by the Catholic Schools Board powers that the two Catholic schools in Wanganui at the time, St. Augustine's College and Sacred Heart College, should merge into one co-educational school. The project was given the go ahead and thus was born Cullinane College. It was also decided at the time that a new principal should be brought in, instead of appointing one of the founding colleges' incumbents. Onto the scene arrives Tracy O'Brien - first principal of Cullinane College. Now eight years on Mr. O'B has seen a number of highs and lows, but overall the school has survived and is progressing into the next decade with its head held high. The new appointee will have very large shoes to fill as the community and its expectations are placed onto the new man's (or woman's) shoulders.
