COLLEGE DEBATING

Students are invited to join our College Debating teams. Debating strengthens an individual’s confidence, intellect, and ability at speaking in front of others.

All levels of ability are welcome as coaching and development are supplied. Our College debating teams compete against each other and with colleges in both the Whanganui and Manawatu regions. As well, all team members are eligible to compete in the Russell McVeigh Regional Championship Tournament which can lead to a student being chosen for the regional team and, possibly, the national team.

Each year the College selects a team to compete in the annual ‘O’Shea Shield’ competition; a competition that focuses on public speaking and involves all seventeen of the Catholic Secondary Schools from the Palmerston North and Wellington Diocese.
Students who have completed three inter-school debates are awarded a College Debating badge.
