A copy of the letter sent home to senior parents about up and coming exams

I hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the end of the academic year, it’s time for our senior students to undertake their final exams. I would like to provide you with important information regarding the upcoming Senior exams scheduled for September 6th to 8th.
During these three days, students will be granted study leave and will only be required to come to school to sit their respective exams. To ensure the smooth conduct of the exams, please take note of the following instructions:

Exam Schedule: The exams will take place in the Gym unless otherwise indicated. Students are required to arrive on time and adhere to the exam schedule provided. Attached to this letter is the exam timetable for your reference.

Morning Exams: Students must be in school by 8:40 a.m. for morning exams.
Afternoon Exams: Students must be in school by 12:30 p.m. for afternoon exams.
Attendance and Timing: Students are not allowed to leave the examination room during the first 45 minutes or the last 15 minutes of the examination, even for restroom breaks. This policy ensures the integrity of the examination process.

Workshops and Exams: Workshop time slots will be communicated by the teachers. However, please note that exams take precedence over workshops. Students must attend any scheduled exams before participating in workshops.

Exam Clashes: In case of exam clashes, please encourage your child to reach out to their teacher, Mr Daignault, or Señora Penn-Reina this week. We will make arrangements for an appropriate exam slot. Remember, exams must take priority over workshops.

Exam Supplies: Students should bring the following items in a clear plastic bag: blue or black pens, rulers, calculators, etc. A clear water bottle (without labels) is allowed. Please avoid using gel pens or writing in pencil.

Items Not Allowed: Phones and watches are not permitted in the exam room. Phones must be turned off and stored in the student’s bag along with their watch.

Level 1 English Exam: This exam will be conducted digitally, and all students will be provided with Chromebooks on the day of the exam. Students must remember their NZQA login information for this exam.

Uniform and Punctuality: Students are required to be in full school uniform and arrive on time for their exams. The NZQA rules mandate a minimun 45-minute duration for each exam.

Study Options: Students without exams on a particular day have the option to study at home. If students are on-site but do not have an exam, they can utilize the library for quiet study.

Respecting Learning: While exams are taking place, we kindly request that students refrain from socializing in common areas and engaging in sports activities. Let’s respect the learning environment.

Contact Information: If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Daignault or Señora Penn-Reina.
EvacuationPack: A student may take items for an emergency evacuation into the room in a clear, sealable plastic bag. Contents could include a power bank, cell phone or other electronic device (switched off), watch, keys, money, bus pass, and medicines.
The pack stays under their chair unless they ask if they can access their power bank or if the GYM must be evacuated.

These exams hold significant importance, as they will serve as the final mark if, for any reason, your child cannot attend the national exams. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child is well-prepared for these assessments.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Yours faithfully,

Sra L Penn-Reina
Deputy Principal
