On the 29th of March about 50 students travelled across to The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Palmerston North for the Mass of the Oils. This is an annual event that comes at the beginning of Holy Week leading up to Easter. The Mass is when our Priests, Bishops, Archbishops and other clergy, renew their vows to be spiritual leaders in our community. It is also symbolic of some of the events that lead up to Christ dying on the Cross.
Our Head Boy, Jordan Solomona, and Head Girl, Aigalelei Leo, participated in presenting the jars of oil to be blessed and then distributed to the various representatives of the Parish. Accepting the oils on behalf of Whanganui and its surrounding parishes were Patrick Daignault and Avalee Laird. These will then be used throughout the year for the Anointing of the Sick and for Baptisms and other special events where the oils are used.
